From Dan Locke

"Tomorrow afternoon from 4pm-5pm I will be handing my work to the public free of charge outside of Highbury and Islington tube station. The work has been published by Islington Exhibits and St Martins as a full colour tabloid sized pamphlet."

Nb, I got this message yesterday, so he's giving his comic out TODAY!

Cartoonist Warm Up Exercises

John K Stuff is very generous with his advice and tips for aspiring cartoonists and animators. Yesterday he posted ideas about daily warm up exercises. Are we self-disciplined enough to follow his advice?

Rude Britannia

A 3-part documentary on the BBC iplayer. The first deals with Hogarth, Gillray, Rowlandson, Cruikshank, and satirical prints in general. It's interesting, but kind of juvenile in it's areas of focus (yeah, I know that's the point, but I think it does the artists a disservice). The second part though, which deals with the Victorian era thru to the 1960's, is very well done. Haven't seen part 3 yet!

Kim Deitch master class at MoCCA June 28

I would sell a kidney if it meant I could get to this :

"Meanwhile, Deitch family fans on the other coast won't be left in the lurch — on Monday June 28 at 6:30 PM in New York City the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art presents a Master Class in Comic Art and Storytelling with Kim Deitch, who "will impart some key secrets. Secrets easily mastered that transformed him from being lazy, hedonistic and unfocused into a more positive, goal oriented human being. He will also show you a certain attitude about the idea of making art; how an artistic life can be more than a way to make a living; that it can also be a way to make a genuinely valid contribution to the world we live in." Man that sounds great! More info & registration links here."

Good For Granny!

Peter Lally of The Bedsit Journal "fame" has some recent work on his new website The Firmament. Included in it's entirety is Pete's new comic, Good For Granny, and some nice 4-Koma (i.e. short humorous manga) strips. Pete's raw, self-taught art style, and hilarious story telling make him one of my favourite UK cartoonists.
