HUMBUG
Oh Boy, I wanna see this! Harvey Kurtzman, Will Elder, Arnold Roth, Al Jaffee and Jack Davis : the fifties' artists who influenced a few decades worth of alternative cartoonists. Read all about Harvey Kurtzman and Humbug here, where you can also download the first issue as a pdf file.
There will also be a Humbug exhibition, opening March the 7th, at the Fantagraphics Bookstore and Gallery in Seattle.
"Kurtzman’s ‘Humbug’ is no humbug" by Michael H. Price.

DIES IRAE
You can read the whole 26 page first chapter of Spain Rodriguez and Justin Wertham's "Dies Irae" graphic novel online. It's a great piece of work. I hope someone will publish the complete story. It seems crazy that something this good hasn't seen print. Just click the banner below, and it'll take you to the story.

Scott Smith
Paunch issue 1 reviewed in Nude Magazine (and taken from Scott's blog).
Meanwhile, Scott's NEW comic "Up A Blind Alley" may be the best thing I picked up at the Alternative Press Fair a couple of weeks ago.
Scott is also the winner of the Love The Line Award for the best entry to last years Observer/Cape Graphic Short Story Competition, for his story "Speed Date" (and the Luvvie Award is of course the one that matters).

Ditko In The Fifties.
Three rather strange covers from Steve Ditko's early career as a comic book artist (1954). I'm afraid these are the largest versions I could find (and they're from here).

Dash Shaw
I've really been getting into Dash Shaw's stories in the recent issues of Mome. I haven't read his online BodyWorld saga yet, but if the Mome stuff is anything to go by, it should be a treat. The link to the first chapter (actually the prelude) is below. It does seem a little mind bending... but bear with it - Shaw has one of the most unfettered imaginations in comics.
