Dear All,
Please see below for some information about an event that we are organising with CreativeCapital. The idea is to engage surburban communities in the arts. If you're interested in taking part then please contact Amneet at the email address below.
If you're an artist, small press comix creator or zinester, please come along and sell your work at our mini-fair communal table. Also, the local comic book shop, Calamity Comics (160 Station Road - http://www.touchharrow.com/business/map), are opening their doors for the first time to the small press, and will be dedicating some shelf space to underground comix, so go along and show them your work.

The Short Animated Film that won the Oscar for 2010.

The Great Noah Van Sciver

I first saw this guys work in Mome 14, "The True Tale Of The Denver Spider-Man". I was impressed... the strip had an edge of excitement, or intensity, or something, that marked it out from most of the other work in that issue. I was interested enough to check out his website, and eventually order his recent mini-comix, which arrived VERY quickly along with a sketch and free badge. These comics just confirmed what I hoped would be the case... that I love Noah Van Sciver's comics. They're funny, tortured, desperate, yet honest and full of life.
There's a page from each comic below (scanned and posted with Noah's permission).

Next I have to get those Blammo's...

Popeye in "Fightin' Pals"

Popeye and Bluto work quite well as friends in this Fleischer Bros. classic.

Draw 160

From Drawn! The Illustration and Cartooning Blog :

"Mike Lynch shares some real gems from his cartooning classes in a recent blog post:

How do you get to be a better cartoonist?

There is the old piece of advice: take a stack of paper the same height that you are. Draw on every one. When you get to the bottom, you’ve gotten a lot of the bad drawings out of your system and you’re a better artist."

Continued here.

Vaughn Bodé

I haven't read any of Vaughn Bodé's work, but hearing the guy speak is pretty interesting.

There are two more parts to this on youtube.

The first of our radio shows on our trip to Angouleme is tonight. It starts at 8pm, is an hour long and features interviews, music and stories from Angouleme International Comics Festival, the largest comics festival in the world (outside Japan!)

In two weeks time we will continue with a further installment from Angouleme, including more interviews, music and laughs!
Also, listen out for the recording of what happened when Peter and I met Robert Crumb, and gave him some comics from London's Alternative comics scene!

So, tune in to 104.4fm, 8pm, Thursday 4th March (if you can't get resonance where you are then give us a couple of weeks to get the shows up online...)
